Look: Democratic Congressional Interns Take a Beautifully Diverse Selfie of Their Own

Making Paul Ryan's #GOPSoWhite photo a more epic fail.

Published July 21, 2016

Ever since Speaker of the House Paul Ryan posted a selfie of Capitol Hill interns, many have commented about the overwhelming lack of diversity in the picture. So many people took pause after seeing the photo that Texas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson decided to share a photo of her own.

The selfie shows the Democratic Congressional interns and, needless to say, it offers a stark comparison to the Ryan photo.

Intern Audra Jackson took the photo that shows a diverse group of multicultural interns in DC. Then Rep. Johnson posted the picture to her Twitter account with the caption, “My intern Audra Jackson led Democratic Interns in their own selfie 2day showing #DemInternDiversity #DemInternSelfie.”

Once the photo was posted, it did not take long for it to become an instant hit. Commenters on the photo celebrated how that photo seemed to represent all of America in a single snapshot. One commenter said, “Democratic Party reflects and embraces America's diversity. Republicans fear and ignore it.”

With all of the racial rhetoric used by the GOP, specifically Donald Trump, it is refreshing to see people of all backgrounds embraced in politics. Perhaps the Republican and Democratic intern selfies are a good look at what each of these parties wants for America and a strong reminder that everyone needs to get out and vote come November.

Check out some of the positive responses to the selfie below. What do you think of the image? Let us know in the comment section.
