Watch: Pulse Shooting Survivor Takes His First Steps After Horrific Attack

Angel Colon has been waiting for this day to come.

It’s been over two months since the tragic mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The shooting killed 49 people and hospitalized 53. Now, one of the 53 survivors has taken a giant first step towards recovery — literally.

Angel Colon, 26, was shot multiple times during the attack and shattered his legs trying to escape. After the shooting, Colon received medical treatment in a hospital with the help of a GoFundMe page to offset medical expenses.

Now, Colon has shared a video of him taking his first unassisted steps in his Florida home. This is sure to be a crucial milestone in the overall healing process for Colon and his family.

Colon previously worked as a Zumba instructor before the attack. Perhaps his fitness training helped to speed along his recovery. In the video, Colon takes several steps on his own while his friends and family cheer him on.

In the Facebook post featuring the video, Colon wrote, “'Ahhhh took my first steps all by myself! So happy!” He added that he was “feeling excited” and there’s no doubt that the rest of the country is just as excited for him.

Colon regularly updates his Facebook page with updates and positive messages. He typically receives an outpouring of support from friends and strangers alike.

Colon was actually about to exit the nightclub on June 12 when shots were suddenly fired. He was unsure as to whether or not he would survive, but he remained motivated to get out.

Colon is on his way to a full recovery and we could not be prouder! Check out the wonderful video of Angel Colon and his first steps below.
