Earlier this summer, 8-year-old Gabrielle “Gabby” Carter lost her life when she was caught in the cross fire during a gang-related shooting. She was riding her bike during the time of the fatal shooting.
The little girl was hit with a stray bullet while across the street from her residence in Camden on August 4.
As reported, 18-year-old Tyhan Brown has now been charged with the murder. He was taken into custody in Clarksville, Tennessee and is being kept on a fugitive murder warrant.
During a news conference, police Chief Scott Thomson did not specify Brown’s specific role in the shooting, but did confirm that more arrests will be underway.
“We have an interest in holding every person responsible for the acts that led up to that night and thereafter,” Thomson said.
In addition to arresting the 18-year-old, his mother and his 19-year-old girlfriend also were charged with different degrees of hindering the investigation. His mother, Shakia Landwas was reportedly charged with one count fourth-degree of hindering the investigation, with his girlfriend, Natasha Gerald, charged with one count third-degree hindering the investigation.
“This is not a moment for celebration,” the police chief added. “It’s not even a moment for pause. We are going to relentlessly continue our investigation, into bringing those folks to justice…other suspects have been hiding under a rock and it’s only a matter of time before we flip that rock over.”
