In a shocking and saddening display of child endangerment, a Utah father was caught dumping his five-year-old daughter on a college campus, leaving her to fend for herself with nothing but a blanket, in 30-degree temperatures at 5am Thursday morning.
It wasn't until over two hours later Ogden-Weber Applied Technical College security guards found the abandoned little girl.
According to the child's mother, who identified only as Gena to protect the identity of her young daughter, the girl's father "told her to shut up, and lay down, and go to sleep."
Gena told Fox13 that her daughter is, understandably, traumatized by the event. "She was yelling, 'Daddy!' but no one was there. She said she just kind of had her blanket and waited until daylight."
Fred Frazier, the security manager at the school said, "It was heartbreaking." Adding, "To see a little girl running alone by herself. That's when [the security guard on the scene] got very concerened, and she was shivering and cold."
While the toddler is now safe and sound, her father is facing serious jail time and will be charged with child abandonment or abuse charges, or both.
While the mother stated that she had previously tried to file a protective order against the man, who is her ex-husband, it was denied by the courts. That's sure to change after this terrible incident.
