Watch: At Least 9 Dead After Trucks Plows Through Berlin Christmas Market

The incident is now being viewed as an act of terrorism.

On Monday night, a truck drove into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin. At least nine people have been killed and 50 have been injured. Officials are investigating the crash as an act of terrorism, according to a German intelligence official.

Shortly after the incident, authorities apprehended the suspected driver, according to a police spokesman.

The crash occurred in Breitscheidplatz in the western part of central Berlin. 

  1. One passenger in the truck that drove through the crowd died on scene, Berlin police tweeted.

    "A truck just ran over a sidewalk at #Breitscheidplatz Our colleague report multiple injuries. more to follow," Berlin police tweeted.

  2. Although the identity and affiliations of the attacker are unknown, many believe there were terrorist motives behind the attack
  3. However, German officials have not made an official declaration that this was an act of terror
  4. Witnesses from the accident have suggested that the truck's movement appeared deliberate
  5. Security concerns were raised surrounding the Christmas Market in Berlin, as it is one of the largest tourist attractions in the area
