Watch: The Chilling First Moment Fort Lauderdale Gunman Esteban Santiago Opened Fire in the Airport

The 26-year-old faces three separate death penalty charges.

Newly released footage obtained exclusively by TMZ showed Fort Lauderdale International Airport gunman Esteban Santiago in the first moment that he opened fired on January 6. 

In the recording, Santiago is seen walking through baggage claim. No sooner than he enters the frame, he pulls out a weapon and begins firing.

    Santiago killed a total of five people and left several wounded, some are still in intensive care, reported CNN. 

  2. Based on his crimes, Santiago faces multiple death penalty charges

    In a statement to investigators, Santiago confessed to buying a one way ticket from Alaska to Fort Lauderdale. He also confirmed that he brought a 9-millimeter pistol with two magazines.

    While in the airport, he went into the bathroom, loaded the gun and exited, according to his statement. He then told investigators that he opened fire on the first people he saw. 

    The 26-year-old faces three federal charges that each carry the possibility of the death penalty, the U.S. Justice Department said.
