Watch: 'You're Despicable ' – Gov. Paul LePage Says John Lewis Should Thank GOP for Ending Slavery and Twitter Dragged Him to Hell and Back

Did he learn nothing from Rob Schneider?
  • During an interview with a Maine radio station, governor Paul LePage criticized Congressman John Lewis for calling President-elect Trump illegitimate

While speaking to WVOM, LePage, who has made racist comments in the past, said John Lewis needs to review his history.

"How about John Lewis last week, criticizing the president?" LePage said on Tuesday. “John Lewis ought to look at history. It was Abraham Lincoln that freed the slaves. It was Rutherford B. Hayes and Ulysses S. Grant that fought against Jim Crow laws.

“A simple 'thank you' would suffice,” he continued.

  • And as soon as he said John Lewis should say, 'thank you,' people took to Twitter like the Kermit The Frog at the typewriter meme

  • Maybe LePage doesn't know how history works

  • It's clear he's learned nothing from recent history

  • Some even joked that maybe LePage will soon be asking other people to thank people who need no thanks

  • Additionally, LePage's comments are not even rooted in true history

  • Here's a real history lesson for you, LePage

  • And speaking of history, let us not forget the racist comments that LePage has made in his home state

As LePage's favorite incoming president would say, SAD!
