As a result of the devastating chemical attack ordered by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday, President Trump launched 50 Tomahawk missiles towards the Syrian military airfield on Thursday evening.
The missile launch is the first U.S. strike in Syria since the civil war began in 2011. The situation in Syria stems from the violent attacks made by the dictator Assad and ISIS. The U.S. involvement in the war is complex because anything that potentially harms Assad's military power could strengthen ISIS. However, leaving his airfield open could lead to more attacks against Syrian people.
President Trump's decision to strike has been met with opposition as well as support from both sides of the aisle. Those in favor of using U.S. power to topple Assad see this as a move to demonstrate America's moral position.
However, some see this strike a senseless and violent retaliation with no end game.
