Trump Doesn’t Know Why the Civil War Happened, But He Does Think Slave Owner Andrew Jackson Could Have Stopped It

"People don't ask that question, but why was there a Civil War?"

  1. In a recent interview on Sirius XM radio, President Donald Trump made some extremely problematic remarks about Andrew Jackson and the civil war
  2. Trump somehow suggested that Jackson — who was a slave owner — had a big heart and could have prevented an unnecessary civil war
  3. It appears that Trump never learned the Civil War happened because of slavery and Andrew Jackson was long gone when the battle began
  4. Is it possible that Donald Trump knows very little when it comes to basic American history?
  5. Or maybe nobody knew that the civil war could be so complicated
