The federal contractor accused of leaking classified information from the National Security Agency about the Russian military intelligence interference in the 2016 election has many people talking about her unusual name.
25-year-old Reality Leigh Winner is an Air Force veteran and a contractor with Pluribus International Corp., a government facility in Georgia. After allegedly mailing a classified document detailing a cyberattack executed by Russian intelligence to The Intercept, Winner was charged by the Department of Justice.
On Monday, the Justice Department accused and charged Winner for leaking classified information in an NSA memo, reported CNN.
Regardless of the humor of Winner's name, her action revealed Russian intelligence hacking may have made its way all the way to certain voting machines.
According to The Intercept, the document provided revealed a Russian cyberattack was performed on at least one U.S. voting software supplier and spear-phishing emails were delivered to more than 100 local election officials only a few days before the 2016 election.
The information revealed a deeper attempt on behalf of Russia to interfere in the election.
