A 10-month-old baby in Houston was shot and killed while his father held him in his arms, reported KTRK.
Messiah Justice Marshall — who was identified by his family — was outside an apartment complex with his father when three unidentified men opened fire, according to Houston police.
Messiah’s father, whose name has not yet been revealed, ran to get help at a nearby gas station after the shooting.
“Somebody shot my baby!” witness Mari Hidalgo said the father screamed.
Messiah’s grandfather, Willie Mason, said the baby was always smiling,
"That baby smiled every time you looked at him, every time you looked at him. He was just the sweetest baby you want to see. You take an innocent life...it's cowardly," Mason told KTRK.
Messiah’s family set up a fundraiser for funeral expenses.
“The Lord loaned baby Messiah to us for the brief period of 10 months. A beautiful soul was lost. He brought joy and laughter to all,” the GoFundMe said.
The father of the baby told officers he did not know the three men who shot at him. Houston police, who have said they do not know if the shooting was targeted at the father or random, are searching for the three suspects.
CrimeStoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
