Pregnant Woman Arrested for Running SUV Over Shirtless Man Who Grabbed Her Purse
A pregnant woman in North Carolina was arrested and charged with assault after she chased down a man with her SUV after he attempted to steal her purse, reported News 13.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Christine Braswell, 26, was in a Walmart parking lot when a man started digging through her SUV. One witness who saw the man — later identified as Robert Raines — attempted to get him to stop.
"When I walked out of Walmart, he had her purse and was pulling all of her stuff out," witness Blake Bennett told News 13. "Then me and my friend told him to put it down and 'What are you doing?'"
Raines then ran off with Braswell’s purse when she noticed and tried to confront him. Braswell, who is five months pregnant, first tried to chase him on foot, but soon decided to hop in her car and pursue the thief.
"He was with my purse and he took off and I took off after him," Braswell told News 13. "Me being five months pregnant, I chased a little ways then come back, jumped in the car, threw it in gear and come across the curb and ran him over. I was not going to let him get away with it. It's not right, it's not fair."
Raines was transported to the hospital after the incident. He is expected to recover as he only suffered minor injuries, said Ashville police.
Raines is charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny and misdemeanor damage to property. Braswell was also charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
