Viral Photo of Mom Taking a Bong Hit While Breastfeeding Sparks Intense 'Bad Mom' Backlash

People have threatened to call Child Protective Services on the woman.

A viral image of a woman who appears to be smoking weed while breastfeeding her baby has stirred up much controversy among social media parents.

The image, which has made its way around Facebook and Twitter, was originally posted to a Facebook group called CannaParentingSupport.

  • Accompanying the photo is a caption that reads, 'Need a safe place to share this beautiful picture – feeling blessed...'

  • Upon seeing the image, some people blasted the mother and called her a 'bad parent'

Quotes from people commenting on the photo, via The Sun:

"If you are going to smoke it do it away from the baby! Staged or not your main concern should be feeding your baby, not posting pictures on Facebook."

"Never mind second hand infant smoke inhalation... fuckin idiots."

"I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure a newborn child breathing anything beside air is probably bad."

  • However, some people in the group applauded the mother and condemned any negative comments

  • Due to the fact that THC can be stored in the body and transferred to a baby, many threatened to report the mother to Child Protective Services

The active ingredient in marijuana, THC, is fat soluble and can be stored in the fat tissue in our bodies.

"Any drug that is fat soluble gets into fat [tissue], and breast milk has lots of fat because that's what's good for the baby," said Dr. David Mendez, a neonatologist at Miami Children's Hospital told Live Science.
