A Florida mother faces a murder charge after she was served an arrest warrant on August 25 for fatally shooting an 18-year-old boy in an alleged revenge killing.

According to a criminal complaint, Connie Serbu lured Xavier Sierra, who was an acquaintance, into the woods in July 2016 in a plot to confront him about allegedly raping her six-year-old daughter, reported the Naples Daily News. Serbu enlisted the help of her brother John Vargas, 29, who was also killed in the shooting.

At the time the arrest warrant was served, Serbu was already at the Naples Jail Center on suspicion of custodial interference. She now also faces a charge of second-degree murder and is being held without bail.

When police found the body of Sierra in the woods after responding to a gunshot report, they also found a blue, four-door Hyundai at the end of a dirt road. In the car was a panicked Serbu, who told officers two men had been shot.

During questioning, Serbu told investigators “it’s all my fault” and said she didn’t want her brother to get in trouble, the complaint states.

Serbu also asked police to book her and said, “So I don’t care, he raped my daughter ... she told me everything that happened,” according to the complaint.

According to police, Serbu’s daughter told her mother over Memorial Day Weekend 2016 that Sierra sexually assaulted her. After learning about the rape, Serbu repeatedly told friends she wanted to kill Sierra, but her daughter asked her not to hurt him.

Detectives discovered text messages sent from Serbu to Sierra in July 2016 asking him for help to build a bunk bed.

“Connie Serbu stated that she planned on confronting Xavier Sierra regarding the molestation of her daughter” the day she asked him to install the bunk beds, the complaint states.

Serbu and her brother, Vargas, picked up the teen to confront him. Investigators said Vargas and Serbu left her house with two guns registered to Serbu, two stun guns, a potato to use as a silencer, an ice pick, plastic gloves, bags and paper towels.

According to the complaint, Vargas asked Sierra about the assault while Serbu drove the group to the wooded area. After they parked, Sierra and tried to run away, but Vargas and Serbu chased him, according to the complaint.

Police said Sierra wrestled with Vargas for one of the guns and Sierra ultimately was shot with both guns a total of six times. Vargas was shot once in the abdomen, according to police. The complaint doesn’t say who shot Vargas but states he was shot first.
