Hurricane Irma has officially reached category five status with South Florida residents waking up to a monster on Sunday morning.
Making landfall in the Florida Keys, video footage and photos were captured chronicling the devastating damage that included massive trees hurling into the streets, power outages and, most noticeably, the rising floods that pervaded the highways.
According to CNN, the National Hurricane Center declared that Irma will remain this level of intensity as it heads to the northern parts of the state, along the Gulf Coast.
