A 19-year-old pregnant woman is in critical condition after an unknown gunman shot her in the head twice in broad daylight.
The New York Daily News reported Tytianna Sparks, who is five months pregnant, was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital after she was shot on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn. The gunman ran off after the shooting, according to police.
On Monday, Sparks had surgery to remove the bullets and relatives say it’s a miracle she is “doing fine,” reported the New York Post.
The victim’s mother, Ruth Sparks, 59, said her daughter was a victim of bullets intended for someone else.
“I just lost it,” Ruth told the Daily News “It’s crazy. She was innocent, she was definitely innocent.”
Tytianna’s sister, Corinne Sparks, 37, is relieved the baby and her sister are in good condition.
“When I got there they said she’s conscious, she’s all right,” Corinne told the Daily News. “The baby’s all right and God is good because it could’ve been the other way around. It could’ve been her and the baby dead.”
Police did not have a motive for the shooting as of Sunday night and have described the suspect as a man in a black shirt.
Tytianna’s neighbors remember the scary moment of the shooting.
“When I came downstairs I heard a lady screaming,” neighbor Louis Leak, 64, told the Daily News. “She was laying between two cars and she didn’t look like she was alive to me. She was already bleeding out.”
