Donald Trump 'Joked' That Mike Pence 'Wants To Hang' All Gay People, Resulting In Both Getting Eviscerated On Twitter
In a recent profile on Vice President Mike Pence, several sources came forward to speak out against the former governor's regressive views on abortion and the LGBTQ community. One of the most noted quotes came from Donald Trump, who made a not-so-funny "joke" about Pence's thoughts on gay people.
In the New Yorker piece titled "The Danger of President Pence," writer Jane Mayer details many of the policies and beliefs Pence holds which could make him a worse president than Trump.
For the profile, Mayer spoke to several people about their thoughts on Pence. Mayer also detailed the criticism Trump has given Pence for several of his views.
Here is an excerpt from the New Yorker article:
"During a meeting with a legal scholar, Trump belittled Pence’s determination to overturn Roe v. Wade. The legal scholar had said that, if the Supreme Court did so, many states would likely legalize abortion on their own. 'You see?' Trump asked Pence. 'You’ve wasted all this time and energy on it, and it’s not going to end abortion anyway.' When the conversation turned to gay rights, Trump motioned toward Pence and joked, 'Don’t ask that guy—he wants to hang them all!'"
Trump's comment about Pence wanting to 'hang' gay people immediately became a topic of discussion
Some suggested the comment may have been an attempt by Trump to undermine Pence's potential to be his successor
Others dragged Trump for telling the 'joke' and Pence for inspiring it
