UPDATE: The suspect in the Manhattan vehicle attack has been identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipovm of Tampa, Florida, according to CBS News.
A man reportedly drove a pickup truck down a pedestrian and bike path next to the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan, striking and killing eight people and injuring 11 more.
The FBI is now taking over the investigation as there's reported evidence the attack was terrorism related.
The vehicle came to a stop after it collided with a school bus from Stuyvesant High School. Initially, it was reported that the man fired gunshots from the truck, however authorities still haven’t confirmed that. Police say they shot the driver in the leg and subsequently arrested him.
An investigation is underway, blocking off a large section of the West Side Highway. Hundreds of officers responded to the scene. No additional suspects are being sought after.
The Fire Department said officials responded to reports of mass casualties shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Chambers and West Streets.
The driver has not yet been identified publicly. Eyewitnesses reported hearing as many as 15 gunshots after he crashed a white Home Depot pickup truck.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio was briefed on the situation.
