A man has been taken into custody after he allegedly threatened a woman and her three children with a bottle.
Witnesses say the 29-year-old mother was with her kids (1, 4, and 8) going southbound on the 6 train at around 7:15 pm on Thursday (November 16) when 58-year-old Ramel Jefferson began threatening her in an unprovoked attack.
According to the New York Daily News, Jefferson was reportedly drunk and when the train stopped, followed the fleeing young woman and her children and attacked them. He allegedly punched the mother in the face, pushed her onto a bench and dragged her by her hair. That’s when commuters intervened and rescued the woman.
Footage captured shows Jefferson being punched and kicked by subway passengers. Police later broke up the fighting and charged Jefferson with resisting arrest, assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. No one else faces charges.
The victim suffered lacerations to her face and pain in her shoulder, but refused medical attention. Her name has not been released.
Jefferson received a swollen lip and was taken to an area hospital.
