The Florida Highway Patrol concluded that Lakin was the cause of the wreck as he was driving north in the southbound center lane of I-75.
Waiters and Alexandre were heading home from dropping of a friend Thanksgiving dinner. The couple was planning to get married in January 2019 and were engaged in October.
Authorities aren’t certain when Lakin began driving the wrong way on the interstate. The investigation is still ongoing, however they do not feel alcohol played a role. Toxicology tests are reportedly still being conducted.
