Donald Trump reportedly called the White House “a real dump” back in August with many people criticizing his characterization of the most powerful home in America.
Well, maybe he was onto to something. Disclaimer: he should have never called his taxpayer-funded house a “dump” and let people hear it. Not a smart move. But according to recent reports, cleanliness standards at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. are in question.
According to NBC Washington, mice infiltrations were reported in the White House’s Navy mess food service area and Situation Room. There were also at least four reports of cockroaches on the White House grounds and ants in the chief of staff’s office.
Work orders have been on going in trying to not just eradicate the vermin, but also fix structural problems like loose boards and cracking paint. It’s easier said than done since the residence consists of 55,000 square feet of floor area and 132 rooms.
“It’s an enormous job. GSA is assigned to manage that job,” Brian Miller, former inspector general of the General Services Administration told the NBC outlet. “GSA hires contractors and subcontractors for the [maintenance] work. Then the agency must watch over the contractors.”
It’s estimated that the building costs the GSA at least $100,000 to maintain each year.
Renovation made news earlier this year when the West Wing was getting a tune up while Trump was taking one of his many trips to the golf course and residential property he owns in Bedminster, N.J.
Even if it's not necessarily Trump or his staff's fault that the White House needs fixing up, the jokes are still writing themselves. Once roaches and rats were mentioned in the same sentence as The Donald's White House, it was over. See some of the best reactions below.
