On Saturday, a shooting spree outside a Dallas apartment complex resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman and the serious injuring of her 16-year-old sister.

Police say 18-year-old Nequacia Jacobs and her unnamed 16-year-old sister were shot from below while they looked out their window to see where the shooting was coming from, reported CBS Dallas/Fort Worth.

The sisters were inside the apartment when shooting rang out from the ground floor. Several windows of the complex were hit were bullets. Neighbors recall hearing the sisters scream after the gunfire.

"I heard the gunshots and I heard the kids screaming," neighbor Kimberly Brown told CBS. "It's heartbreaking. I could hardly get myself together last night because I was thinking about the kids."

After the shooting, Jacobs’ 16-year-old sister ran downstairs for help even though she had been shot herself.

"She was trying to explain that her sister is not moving at the time, that someone needs to call an ambulance or get some help upstairs as soon as possible, that her sister got shot, her sister's not breathing. Me and my kids and my daughters, we all tried to comfort them the best way we could," Sharon Scott, a neighbor, told Fox News.

Jacobs died from her injuries while her sister remains in serious condition.

There has been no word of any arrests. Dallas police released surveillance images of the suspect in a black hoodie with writing on the back arriving at the apartments in a white 2005 to 2010 Dodge Charger with tinted windows.

Jacobs’ friends said they're planning a memorial for her at South Oak Cliff High School Monday. They're asking everyone to wear purple in her honor.
