On Monday evening, a Black student at Nottingham Trent University in England recorded a video of racist chanting taking place outside of her dorm room.

On Wednesday evening, Rufaro Chisango tweeted the video with the hopes of it gaining attention from her school administrators.

In the short clip, two men can be heard chanting, "we hate the Blacks" and "f**k the Blacks," while Chisango stands on the other side of the door. In a Twitter thread, Chisango said the men also said, “Blacks would go back to picking cotton,” but she was unable to record that on the video.

Chisango said she immediately alerted reception staff about the incident, yet no actions were taken.

  1. After she tweeted the video, it was shared over 21,000 times
  2. Eventually, the university's student union president was made aware of the incident
  3. The NTU official twitter page announced the school had contacted Chisango about the clip
  4. On Thursday, two 18-year-old men were arrested in connection with the incident

In a statement, Nottinghamshire Police said:

"We’ve arrested two men in connection with racially aggravated public order offences following reports of a video posted at Nottingham Trent University and shared on social media.

"The men, aged 18, remain in police custody. Our enquiries are ongoing."
