The student who became the face of the Howard University financial aid scandal plans to sue the university $10 million for leaking his financial records and ruining his life, sparking a whole new generation of hilarious and perfectly petty memes.
Tyrone Hankerson Jr.’s lawyer, James Walker, told news outlet WAMU that he’s drafted a lawsuit that is expected to be filed in D.C. Superior court by Friday.
Hankerson’s potential lawsuit comes as a shock considering he was accused in an anonymous Medium blog of stealing $429,000 from funds earmarked for financial aid for low-income students.
Hankerson has denied any wrongdoing by saying he did “nothing illegal or wrong."
“When the truth comes out, it will be confirmed that I followed all rules and protocol with the approval of the, then, financial aid officers in any grants, scholarships or awards given to me as a student who attended class all year round and traveled abroad,” he said in a statement.
