As the debate for legislative gun reform grows, a college senior in Tennessee let her stance be known with a controversial graduation photo featuring a gun.

Brenna Spencer, 22, is graduating from University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in May and on Saturday, she shared a senior photo of herself in a hot pink “Trump for Women” T-shirt with a handgun in the waistband of her jeans.

  1. Spencer captioned the post, “I don’t take normal graduation photos …”

The senior wanted the photo to “show who I am as a person,” she told ABC News.

Eventually, the photo went viral due to its provocative nature.

“I did think that it would get a little attention but not to this degree,” Spencer told ABC. “It was really, really surprising to see the amount of hate that I got.”

  2. Spencer's photo received criticism from gun reform advocates and praise from Trump voters
  3. Eventually, a Black woman posted a picture of herself with a gun to point out the hypocrisy when it comes to people of color with firearms
  4. Which resulted in racist responses that proved Black gun owners will be viewed as thugs while white gun owners are celebrated
  5. Eventually a non-American tweeted in support of the Black woman
