A man is dead after saving a young child who was drowning in a lake.
25-year-old Brandyn Mitchell located the unnamed child at Isle du Bois beach near the city of Denten, Texas on Saturday (May 19).
Mitchell, who was an Army Reserve soldier, jumped into the water of Lake Ray Roberts and helped the child onto a flotation device. According to Dallas News, Mitchell unfortunately was not himself able to get on it.
The child eventually made it to shore, however the man was not in sight. His body was found hours later by the Lewisville Fire Department’s dive team who was called in by police after they arrived on the scene. Mitchell was about six feet deep in the water.
According to social media, Mitchell is originally from West Memphis, Arkansas and is survived by his two kids.
The mother of Mitchell’s children, Asia Platt, mourned his loss on Facebook. “You went out a hero, saving the life of someone you cared about,” she wrote. “That is the greatest gift one could receive.”
Our condolences go out to Brandyn Mitchell’s family and friends during this tough time.
