A teen mother was arrested in California Tuesday after she allegedly drove her car into her boyfriend and their 7-month-old daughter after an argument, killing the baby and injuring the father.
Sarah Gomez, 19, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, said the Ontario Police Department.
According to Sgt. Jeff Higbee, Gomez and her 21-year-old boyfriend were drinking at a family gathering when a dispute began. The fight between the couple escalated when Gomez got behind the wheel of a car and struck her boyfriend while he held their infant in his arms, reported KTLA.
Other family members took the child and her father to the hospital. The baby was pronounced dead while the father suffered scrapes and abrasions, Higbee said.
The child had injuries consistent with being hit by a car, Higbee added.
Although police first expected Gomez to be charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, they later determined the incident was intentional, Higbee told KTLA.
Gomez was being held at the San Bernardino County West Valley Detention Center.
