Donald Trump may not have been present during John McCain's funeral services, but there were some very direct shots sent his way.
Meghan McCain threw some fierce blows at Trump while delivering a heartfelt and empowering speech during her late father's memorial.
McCain paid homage to her father for being a great warrior who was "defined by love," not politics. "We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly," she said.
Honoring all of his accomplishments she continued, "He was a hero. He was a congressman. He was a senator. He was a nominee for president of the United States. These are all the titles on a wall of a life well lived. He was a great man."
Garnering the applause of the entire cathedral, Meghan McCain boldly proclaimed, "The America of John McCain is generous and welcoming and bold. She is resourceful, confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities. She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to."
Although John McCain's family made it clear that Trump was not invited, Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner were in attendence while he reportedly visited the Trump National Golf Club in Virigina.
Here's what social media had to say about Meghan McCain's shade at Donald Trump:
Meghan McCain’s remarks were, of a sort, a eulogy for the Republican Party.— Rula Jebreal (@rulajebreal) September 1, 2018
She torched Trump, his administration, and those complicit in his enablement.
It’s funny how Trumpers are angry about Meghan McCain’s speech when she simply spoke about virtues of dignity, class, respect and never once called out Trump by name. But simply by calling out “cheap rhetoric, opportunistic appropriation”- they know their man and found offense.— Brittany Pounders (@LibertyBritt) September 1, 2018
Ironic to see Trump supporters saying Meghan McCain’s eulogy was disrespectful and that she's disgusting after Trump repeatedly and continuously mocked and attacked McCain before and after his cancer diagnosis. Trump’s last attack of McCain was four days before his death.— 🦋 Cathleen Burke 🦋 (@ItsMeCathi) September 1, 2018
I’m glad @MeghanMcCain let out her grief, anger & disgust with @realDonaldTrump & @GOP in her father’s eulogy. She is her father’s daughter & I’m sure he’s smiling down at her. Well done Meghan well done.— BCarrz (@bcarrz) September 1, 2018
The ironic & absurd aspect of those @realDonaldTrump supporters bashing Meghan McCain’s for insulting Trump is she never mentioned his name, not once. But just from her contrast between men and with honor like her dad & men without, they knew she meant Trump. See even they know.— Jordan S. (@jord1787) September 1, 2018
