As a part of BET’s Are You Kidding Me series, we’re asking kids what they think about current events, issues and more in hopes bringing young people into the national discussion.
Staring Reggie Couz as host, our first episode asks five children about issues surrounding family. The first major topic they discussed was Donald Trump’s policy of separating immigrant children from their families along the United States’ southern border.
“I think Trump is cruel because of that because what if there’s like three-year-olds, then what is it going to do?” Malcolm, one of the kids, said. “It can’t do anything. It can’t cook. It can’t take care of itself.”
“I think Trump’s ruining America and he’s making everyone not like America anymore. They’re trying to blow us up thanks to him,” said Brielle, another one in the group.
Perhaps the best answer came from Nevaeh who put everything into perspective surrounding the issue. “He’s trying to separate everybody, but he need to think back and look, where did his wife come from?” she said. “If you’re going to do it to one, might as well do it to all.”
Also during the episode, the group discussed their own families and whether a child should be anointed as a favorite in a family, as well as, who they believe is the better father: Donald Trump or Barack Obama.
