Chris Darden, O.J. Simpson's Prosecutor, Is Representing Nipsey Hussle's Alleged Killer

Eric Holder pleaded not guilty to all charges he faces.

Chris Darden, one of the prosecutors on O.J. Simpson’s murder trial, will reportedly represent Eric Holder, the man charged with the murder of Nipsey Hussle.

Darden’s likeness was most recently portrayed by Sterling K. Brown in the docuseries The People V. O.J. Simpson, which detailed the prosecutory failures of the state’s case against Simpson in the infamous 1994 trial.

Holder pleaded not guilty to all charges linked to the Sunday (March 31) shooting outside of Hussle’s Marathon Clothing store. On Thursday (April 4), Los Angeles County prosecutors filed charges against Holder, 29, which include murder and two counts of attempted murder.

  • Holder appeared in a downtown courtroom Thursday afternoon, two days after his arrest and almost 48 hours after the manhunt for him began.

Authorities claim Holder and Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, know each other and had a conversation on Sunday afternoon outside Nipsey’s South LA store. They say Holder left the scene and eventually returned with a handgun and shot the rapper six times. Hussle later died at a nearby hospital. Two other men were wounded in the attack.

Holder also faces felony firearm possession charges after it was learned he was on probation during the tragic incident. If convicted, Holder faces life in prison.

The judge set Eric Holder’s bail at $5 million. Darden was unsuccessful in getting the judge to bar cameras from the courtroom during the hearing and did not fight the bail amount.

You may be wondering how Darden ended up representing Holder. According to the L.A. Times, prosecutor John McKinney said that it was his understanding that Darden had been privately retained for Holder.
