Trump Accidentally Fat Shames His Own Supporter, Not Protestor, At New Hampshire Rally

The president reportedly called the man and left a voicemail apologizing for his comments.

During a campaign rally in New Hampshire on Thursday night (August 15), President Donald Trump told the crowd he wanted to create a political movement “built on love.”

The statement though was made just moments after he fat-shamed who he believed was a protester, but instead was a supporter of his being escorted out of the rally.

“That guy has got a serious weight problem,” Trump proclaimed as the crowd booed. “Go home, start exercising.”

“Gotta bigger problem than I do. Got a bigger problem than all of us,” Trump added, acknowledging his own weight. “Now he goes home and his mom says, ‘What the hell have you just done.’”

Just seconds later, Trump carried on with his speech and said, “Our movement is built on love.”

  • On Friday morning, Fox & Friends tracked down the Trump supporter the president mocked. Frank Dawson told the program he took no offense at the president’s remarks.

“He didn’t see me rip the signs away from those three people that were sitting near us, and they were trying to cause a ruckus,” Dawson claimed.

“But I think he thought I was part of it, but I wasn’t, I was the good part of it … Everything’s good, I love the guy, he’s the best thing that ever happened to this country,” he went on to say.

According to CNN, a White House official confirmed Trump left an apology on the man’s voicemail about his offensive comments.

  • According to reporters at the rally, three people were escorted from the Southern New Hampshire University Arena in Manchester.

The “love” theme was also at odds with other parts of the president’s speech, during which he mocked Democratic presidential hopefuls Senator Elizabeth Warren and former Vice President Joe Biden. He also took aim at the Democratic party in general and some of its most outspoken leaders.

"They view everybody as fascists and Nazis ... They accuse our heroic border agents of running concentration camps," Trump said, in reference to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other members of “The Squad.” "And, they look down upon the hardworking citizens who truly make our country run."
