After celebrating her 100th victory at the U.S. Open on Tuesday (Sept. 3), Serena Williams walked away from her tennis match with Canadian teenager, Bianca Andreescu, without a win.

On Saturday (Sept. 7), over 20,000 tennis fans—including Williams’s royal bestie, Duchess Meghan Markle, sister Venus Williams, and filmmaker Spike Lee—watched attentively in the stands at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, waiting for yet another win from the tennis star who currently boasts 23 Grand Slam titles. 

Unfortunately, that was not the story for the match that marks the biggest age gap in the 51 years of the Open era.

Becoming Canada’s first grand slam champion, 19-year-old Andreescu walked away from the court beating Williams: 6-3, 7-5.

Showing characteristically good sportsmanship, 37-year-old Williams congratulated the young victor on her first Grand Slam title:

Sadly, this makes the fourth consecutive finals defeat for the tennis GOAT since returning to the sport after birthing her adorable daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., via c-section in 2017 and dealing with post-birth health complications.

Serena is an icon living, and there’s probably no one else who can give players half her age a run for their money like she can.
