Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson on Friday (Nov. 19) said he was “desperately ill,” but now believes he is “out of the woods” after contracting COVID-19 while attending a White House election party.

In a Facebook post, Carson, 69, wrote that Donald Trump cleared him to receive a monoclonal antibody therapy, which is not FDA-approved or a proven treatment for COVID-19. Trump received the therapy in October when he was diagnosed with the virus, CNN reports.

Carson tested positive last week at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He is among a series of Trump administration officials to test positive for the virus. The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., the president’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani and his son, Andrew Giuliani, have all tested positive for the virus. The administration and its supporters have bucked science and calls by doctors to wear masks to stop the spread of the virus.
