L. Joy Williams is principal of LJW Community Strategies, a political and community organizing firm that specializes in campaign management, staff development and strategic planning for elected leaders, non-profit organizations and community-based organizations.
Williams has almost a decade of government and political campaign experience. Most recently she served as the Political Director for former New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson’s 2009 Mayoral Campaign. In this capacity, Williams held a wide range of responsibilities including serving as an advisor and strategic asset to Candidate Thompson, his supporters and surrogates.
She worked previously as Deputy Director of Community Relations for the New York City Comptroller’s Office, served as a Special Assistant to former City Council Speaker Gifford Miller and a Program Assistant for Demos, a non-partisan public policy and advocacy organization.
Williams’ other campaign and management experience includes Strategic Advisor to Senator Kevin Parker; Campaign Manager for Karim Camara for New York State Assembly 2006/2008; G.O.T.V Supervisor in Milwaukee, WI for Kerry/Edwards 2004; Election Supervisor for Pacifica Foundation/WBAI Radio and Field Volunteer for McCall 2002, where she personally registered over 1,800 new voters, managed fundraising events and supervised other volunteers.
Williams is active in her community, serving as 1st Vice President of the Brooklyn NAACP and Board Member of the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA. She attended Hofstra University and resides in Brooklyn, New York.
