'Ghetto Handbook' Gets School Cop Fired

Posted Oct. 29, 2007 – The Houston Independent School District has fired the police officer responsible for creating and distributing a booklet, pictured above, that mocked Black folks, saying his actions represented “an egregious violation of our standards of conduct and decency."

Roby Morris, a 34-year-old gang investigator, had worked for the school system for more than a decade before being put on paid administrative leave in August for creating and distributing the eight-page “Ghetto Handbook: Wucha dun did now?”

The book purported to teach folks how to talk like the “just came out of the ’hood.”

Morris, who noted that he is married to an African-American woman, with whom he has three children, said he only distributed the booklet to get back at one of his supervisors.

Does it matter that he has a Black wife? Is it possible that he wasn’t being racist?  Click "Discuss Now" to post your comment.
