Obama Set to Appear on the ‘Tonight Show’

Published March 19, 2009

President Barack Obama is set to do what no other sitting president has ever done before, by making an appearance on Thursday’s “Tonight Show.”

While celebs usually hit the late-night talk show to promote their upcoming films, albums, or books, Obama will use the appearance to trump his economic plan for the United States. Spreading information, not trading jokes with the show’s host, Jay Leno, will be his focus for the evening, according to a White House spokesman.

“We don’t look at it as the process of demonstrating the president’s sense of humor. We look at it as a way of discussing the economic situation that we find ourselves in,” press secretary Robert Gibbs told CNN. Obama is already in California promoting his economic plan at various town hall meetings.

The show will be taped Thursday afternoon.
