A young woman reported being raped at the Atlanta-area home of Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas, police said Thursday, noting that the NFL player is not a suspect in the case.
The woman, in her 20s, told investigators that she had gone to a party at Douglas’ home on Wednesday night, got tired and fell asleep in one of the bedrooms.
“She was then awoken by a male who was sexually assaulting her,” according to a statement from the Gwinnett (Ga.) Police Department. “The victim fled the scene to another location where she called 911 to report what had just happened.” The alleged victim gave the name of the possible suspect, but the man police were looking for had left by the time the officers arrived, the statement said.
Douglas had no knowledge of the incident, which occurred around 5 a.m. Thursday, police said. The 24-year-old Douglas was picked by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round last year from the University of Louisville. Last season, he caught 23 passes for 320 yards and a touchdown.
In a statement issued Thursday, the Falcons said, “We are aware of the report concerning an incident that took place at Harry Douglas’ residence. It is our understanding that Harry was not involved in the incident. Because this is an ongoing police investigation we will have no further comment at this time.”
