Report: Man Charged With Tossing Baby Made Threats

Published August 5, 2009

Newly released documents say a 21-year-old Tampa man accused of throwing an infant out of his car window in May had been threatening to hurt the child.

Richard McTear Jr. is charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 3-month-old son of a woman he'd been dating.

The child's mother, 17-year-old Jasmine Bedwell, told police that McTear was jealous of another man and had threatened to hurt her and her son, Emanuel Murray.

In documents released Tuesday, Bedwell said McTear beat, scratched and choked her, and threw the baby down on the pavement.

He fled with the child, whose body was found later by the side of Interstate 275.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for McTear.
