Adding to growing concerns over its nuclear program, Iran reportedly has test-fired long-range missiles capable of hitting Israel and U.S. bases in the Persian Gulf.
The reports, shown on Iran’s English-language, state-run TV news program showed the launch of the Shahab-3 and Sejil missiles by the Revolutionary Guards. The actions seem particularly provocative, given President Obama’s warning just days earlier that the nation’s secret nuclear plant justified a stronger response from the United States, France and Great Britain.
Iran contends that the intent of its nuclear program is peaceful. But the United States and several other industrialized nations are not convinced. Iran’s Press TV said the Shahab-3 missiles has a range of between 800 and 1,250 miles. Parts of western Iran lie some 650 miles from Tel Aviv.
