Several police officers in San Jose, Calif., are being investigated following the release of a videotape showing them beating a 20-year-old unarmed Asian man with nightsticks and shooting him with a Taser gun, The Mercury News reports.

The video, taken with a camera phone, shows officers striking Phuong Ho more than 10 times with a metal baton, the News reports. Another officer then uses his high-voltage stun gun. Ho, a math major at San Jose State University, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting one of his roommates following the incident last month.

Speaking to the News, several police experts said the video, which is posted on the newspaper’s Web site, shows the officers using excessive and possibly illegal force.
