An Iraqi immigrant was back in Arizona this weekend to face charges of aggravated assault after allegedly running over his 20-year-old daughter because she had become too “westernized.”
After the incident was made public, Faleh Almaleki headed to Mexico and then boarded a plan for the United Kingdom, but when he arrived in London, he was denied entry into the country. He was returned to the Arizona city of Peoria, near Phoenix, where he was arrested and booked into the county jail.
Almaleki is accused of slapping his 20-year-old daughter, Noor Almaleki, and then running over her and her boyfriend's mother with his Jeep on Oct. 20 as the women were walking across a Peoria parking lot. Noor Almaleki remains hospitalized in serious condition after undergoing spinal surgery. The other woman, Amal Khalaf, is in serious but stable condition, according to family members. The Almalekis moved to Peoria from Iraq in the mid-1990s, according to police.
Noor Almaleki had been living with her boyfriend and Khalaf, according to family members, and Faleh Almaleki was angry that his daughter had failed to adhere to traditional Muslim values.
