ATLANTA (AP) — The Clayton County Commission has voted to remove Jeff Turner as county police chief despite raucous pleas and chants from residents.
The board's decision came during a specially called meeting on Monday night and Turner was demoted to director of the Clayton Police Academy.
An audit presented by the board last week cited, among other issues, insubordination by Turner, sexual harassment cases in the department and police chases that ended with innocent bystanders killed.
Turner is a 22-year veteran of the department and has been chief for two years.
He said he would appeal the move to make him director of the Clayton Police Academy with no change in pay.
