The afro-punk movement has been around for more than three decades, originating with bands like Black Merda, Death and Bad Brains.
Afro-Punk recently marked the sixth anniversary of its annual festival where a group of eclectic Black artists, skaters and BMX riders converged in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park.
It was a true celebration of the Afro-Punk experience; featuring live musical performances from the legendary Punk bands Bad Brains, Ninja Sonic, Game Rebellion, J. Davy, The Cool Kids, Mos Def and more.
Capping off the festivities were skate and BMX demos and competitions hosted by pro-skater Stevie Williams and pro BMX rider Nigel Sylvester.
