Sanaa Lathan is back on stage today, starring in By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, an off-Broadway play by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage. She plays the titular character in the comedy, which follows the lives of an African-American maid and her white movie star boss. Lathan is most known for her film work, which includes roles in Brown Sugar, Love & Basketball and The Best Man, but it’s not her first time in the theater. She was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in 2004’s Raisin in the Sun, has also appeared in The Vagina Monologues. The show opened for previews today at Second Stage Theatre’s Tony Kiser Theater in New York City, and will officially open on May 9, 2011.
