Gabby Douglas to Pen Inspirational Memoir

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas recently inked a two-book deal with publisher HarperCollins and plans to release an inspirational memoir by Christmas.

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas recently inked a two-book deal with publisher HarperCollins and plans to release her first title, Grace, Gold and Glory, My Leap of Faith, by December.

Douglas says the book will be an inspirational account of how she overcame personal obstacles to achieve Olympic success.

"I want people to read my story and say, 'If Gabby can do it, I can do it too. Anything is possible,'" Douglas said, as reported in the Los Angeles Times. She added that the book will share "how much my family and I have overcome during our journey. It hasn't been easy."

In pursuit of her goals as a professional gymnast, Douglas moved from her hometown of Virginia Beach, Va., to West Des Moines, Iowa, at age 14 to train full-time at Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute.

“Letting go of Gabrielle [was] one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life but it's now one of the most rewarding things that I've ever gotten to experience ... there's no greater joy than for a parent to see their child reach their dream," Douglas’s mother Natalie Hawkins said.
