University of New Mexico running back Crusoe Gongbay has been arrested on suspicion of rape in Albuquerque, police told TMZ.

Gongbay, 20, is accused of assaulting a University of New Mexico student on April 13.

Head football coach Bob Davie released a statement to TMZ, saying that Gongbay has been suspended from the UNM football team "due to the obvious serious nature of these charges." University officials also issued a statement Monday night, saying Gongbay turned himself in to campus police.

Officials told TMZ that the woman contacted authorities around 3 a.m. on April 13, claiming she had been raped. The woman alleges that two other men may have also been involved. Evidence from an evaluation at the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Unit was sent to the state’s crime lab for processing.

The investigation is ongoing.
