Rockets Fire Employee for Offensive Tweet Sent to Mavericks

Houston's official Twitter account went overboard Tuesday night.

The person running the Houston Rockets official Twitter account over did it Tuesday night.

Excited about the prospect of winning their first-round series against Dallas, the Rockets tweeted, "Shhhhh. Just close your eyes. It will all be over soon." The tweet — since deleted — was sent out during Game 5 and included the emojis of a gun pointed at a horse, signaling the Mavericks' season was coming to an end.

Upon learning of the Rockets' harsh tweet after the game, the Mavs responded with a tweet of their own.

"@HoustonRockets Not very classy but we still wish you guys the best of luck in the next round," the tweet read.

Afterwards, the Rockets issued an apology via Twitter and went on to dismiss their digital communications manager, according to the Houston Chronicle.

"Our Tweet earlier was in very poor taste & not indicative of the respect we have for the @dallasmavs & their fans," the Rockets wrote from their official Twitter account. "We sincerely apologize."

With the series win, the No. 2 Rockets will now face the winner of the (3) Los Angeles Clippers-(6) San Antonio Spurs series, which the Spurs lead 3-2.
