Russell Wilson's Ancestry Links Him to an English King

No wonder he carries himself so righteously.

Ever thought that Russell Wilson talks with a certain air of regalness to him?

Well, we now have information to back that notion up.

After appearing on PBS's Finding Your Roots with famed historian Henry Louis Gates Jr. this past weekend, the Seattle Seahawks' star quarterback was revealed to have ancestry which links him back to at least one English king.

And as crazy as it sounds, Wilson isn't surprised in the least bit.

"I knew it," Wilson said about the discovery, as reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "Some of our ancestors may have grown up as slaves. Some may have been slave owners. We forget we’re all human."

As reported by Yahoo Sports, part of Finding Your Roots also had Gates showing Wilson a document which listed his slave ancestors with property valued at $1,000. There was also a story within that, tracing to his heritage and showing an 18-year-old woman who sued to have her family freed.

"What it all goes back to is really loving people," Wilson said, as reported by Yahoo. "Sometimes you have to forget what a person looks like, forget what a person believes in, forget what a person does have or does not have. You have to look deep inside and love... because you’re probably connected."

We'll see if Wilson brings up his English King royal roots on the football field.
