Trying to beat cancer for the third time, Craig Sager has received encouragement from NBA legends such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson.
As if trying to defeat cancer for good isn't enough of a reason to call him the man, here's another. As part of Sports Illustrated's new cover story about Sager, he reveals that he once talked Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman out of committing suicide. And the way he did it was pretty gangsta.
Sager tells SI that, back in 1993, Rodman had sort of gone AWOL and Sager made it a point to track "The Worm" down...even if it meant going into a Detroit strip club to do it.
Sager told SI about the visit to The Landing Strip, the name of the booty-shaking joint where he found Rodman on the second floor. “He had the gun. He was going to do it. I told him how stupid that would be.”
Rodman listened to the older Sager and went on to win three more NBA titles with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
And the legend of Craig Sager grows...
