Michael Jordan Gave Russell Westbrook the Ultimate Compliment

The Thunder's All-Star point guard is flattered.

Who needs Kevin Durant when you have a brand-new contract and respect from the GOAT himself — Michael Jordan?

Two weeks prior to re-signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder with a three-year, $85.7 million extension Thursday, Russell Westbrook was praised with the ultimate compliment from MJ.

"Thirty years ago, that's me," Jordan said of Westbrook during a short film for the introduction of the Air Jordan XXX1, as reported by Complex. "The attitude, trying to prove myself, showing so much passion for the game of basketball. You see it in his play. You can tell he loves the game, he plays with energy and flair."

According to Complex, Westbrook will be the primary endorser of the new Js, but it's not like that prompted Jordan to give up that kind of reverence to the Thunder's five-time All-Star point guard and back-to-back All-Star MVP.

And to say that Russ was flattered by the compliment would be a huge understatement.

"That's crazy. I really don't know what to say," Westbrook told Complex. "To have the best player who ever played the game to say that about you as a player and a person is something that is going to keep me striving."

That and being the Thunder's sole superstar since KD left OKC to join the Golden State Warriors last month.

We bet MJ likes Russ even more now that he stayed put with the Thunder, seemingly determined to keep them a winning franchise.

And Jordan isn't the only NBA legend to draw similarities to Russ. Kobe Bryant did much of the same this past April before retiring.

Last spring, Allen Iverson also called Westbrook his favorite player.
